The New England Patriots are currently 1-4 on the season. They are in a slump, dropping four straight games.

It's been a long week for New England, as they had to deal with injuries and making a QB change. Drake Maye is going to make his NFL debut on Sunday against the Houston Texans. That is a tall task but the Pats believe Maye can provide a spark to a dormant offense.

Meanwhile, the Patriots decided to bring back a playmaker they released earlier this month.

Patriots News: New England Brings Back John Jiles

On Oct. 9, New England announced they are re-signing receiver John Jiles to the practice squad.

Jiles originally signed with New England's practice squad on Sept. 24 but was let go on Oct. 1. Now, they decided they wanted to bring him back into the fold. Jiles came into the league as an undrafted free agent.

The New York Giants signed him on May 10, but he didn't stick onto the roster, getting released on Aug. 25. Before stepping into the NFL, Jiles was a dynamic weapon at West Florida. In 2023, Jiles started in all 12 games, posting a school record of 1,255 receiving yards with 16 touchdowns and 66 catches.

The Patriots WR room is filled right now with Javon Baker, Kendrick Bourne, Kayshon Boutte, DeMario Douglas, Jalen Hurd, K.J. Osborn, Ja'Lynn Polk, and Tyquan Thornton.

An injury would have to happen for Jiles to get elevated to the active roster and have a chance to show what he can do. Until then, he'll have to continue grinding in practice and be ready if his number is called.
