The New England Patriots quickly shifted their attention to landing a new head coach after firing Jerod Mayo following Week 18. A few weeks ago, a report came out that Mayo would be back in 2025 but things changed behind the scenes.

A lot of rumors have emerged indicating that Mayo wasn't ready for the role, which led to his wife coming to his defense online.

The Patriots have completed interviews with Mike Vrabel, Ben Johnson, Pep Hamilton, and Byron Leftwich. Meanwhile, Aaron Glenn declined an interview with New England, likely indicating the Pats might have already zeroed in on their candidate.

New England isn't trying to waste time. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Pats are looking to quickly resolve their head coach search, and many people around the league expect New England to make a decision this weekend.

Patriots News: New England Reportedly Ready To Make Decision on Head Coach

Russini added that the interview with Johnson went really well but the overall belief around the league is that Vrabel will become the new head coach.

There is a lot of history between the two. Vrabel suited up for the Patriots from 2001-2008, securing three Super Bowl titles. He's currently a member of the Patriots All-2000s Team and Patriots Hall of Fame.

He was a great leader with the Tennessee Titans, logging a 54-45 record from 2018-2023, including three playoff appearances.

As for Johnson, he's had a busy Friday and Saturday. He's interviewed with the Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders, Chicago Bears, and Jacksonville Jaguars.

He is one of the hottest names on the market and wants to gauge his interest from multiple organizations. For New England to expect him to decide in this short span is a bit interesting but not shocking.

The Patriots would like to wrap up this process quickly and turn the page onto offseason scouting and planning with a new leader in place.
