Patriots Give Devastating Christian Barmore Update Ahead of Week 16
By Cem Yolbulan
The New England Patriots' 2024 season has been disappointing on multiple fronts. The team was ravaged by injuries all year and never clicked on either end of the field. Perhaps none was as devastating as Christian Barmore's.
Barmore was diagnosed with blood clots in July. He was ruled out indefinitely and was placed on the non-football illness list. Whether he would play football again was up in the air.
The Patriots eventually activated Barmore on November 16, much to the joy of the defensive tackle, his teammates, and the fans.
However, after playing four games with the team, Barmore is returning to the NFI list due to "recurring symptoms", per an official announcement from the Patriots. The former Alabama standout recorded six total tackles and a sack in 123 defensive snaps this season.
Patriots News: Christian Barmore Lands on the Non-Football Illness List
As the Patriots state in their announcement, Barmore's "health and well-being" should be the top priority. He will be under further evaluation as the future remains uncertain for the 25-year-old.
This is certainly a devastating outcome for one of the standout players on the team. Since arriving in Foxborough as a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Barmore has been a consummate professional and a team leader.
Setting an example both on and off the field, Barmore earned himself a four-year contract extension with the Patriots this past offseason. Over his four-year career, he has recorded 13.5 sacks and 33 quarterback hits.
Barmore is now ineligible to suit up again this season, while his status for the 2025 season is uncertain.
Every Patriots fan hopes that their star defensive lineman feels healthy enough to get back on the field again and show what made him one of the best players on the team over the last few years.
