Patriots Need to Reunite With Former Player Who Was Just Released in Week 12
By Cem Yolbulan
As we approach the final seven weeks of the 2024 NFL campaign, teams are making roster moves to better prepare themselves for the last stretch of the season and the playoffs. This means that veterans, including former Patriots players, will be released in the upcoming weeks.
In fact, the Houston Texans announced on Monday that they waived former Patriots cornerback Myles Bryant. This naturally resulted in Patriots fans expressing their desire to reunite with the dependable defender.
NFL News: CB Myles Bryant Waived by the Texans
After spending the first four seasons of his career in New England, Bryant signed with the Texans in the offseason to reunite with former Pats director of player personnel Nick Caserio. Unfortunately, however, his tenure in Houston didn't go according to plan as he was seldom used in the cornerback rotation.
Bryant only played 11 defensive snaps all season and was almost exclusively used on special teams. Behind Houston's cornerback rotation of Derek Stingley Jr, Kamari Lassiter, and Ka'dar Hollman, the former Patriot didn't establish himself as a part of the unit.
The Texans have one of the best defenses in the league, allowing opponents 4.9 yards per play. They are the second-best team in the league in net yards per pass attempt. They already have 20 takeaways for the season.
When the defensive backfield is doing this well, it is understandable why there was no room for Bryant.
The Patriots, on the other hand, could use another competent veteran in their rotation, especially considering the uncertainty of Jonathan Jones' future with the team. Bryant had his best season in New England last year and was one of the most reliable defenders on the team. He is worth consideration for the Patriots front office.
