Coming off back-to-back wins against the Carolina Panthers and Buffalo Bills, the New England Patriots head into Week 6 with a favorable matchup on the road against the New Orleans Saints. Unfortunately, the Patriots will be without running back Antonio Gibson, who suffered a torn ACL on a kickoff in Week 5.
Given New England's need for another RB, one practice squad player will finally get his chance in Week 6.
Patriots Elevate RB Terrell Jennings from Practice Squad
Terrell Jennings is a name that some fans might know, as he did appear in some games last year, but was back on the practice squad at the beginning of the 2025 season. However, Jennings finally gets to suit up for the first time this weekend, with the Patriots elevating him from the practice squad.
Even though the Patriots signed former UFL star Jashaun Corbin to the practice squad, this news shouldn't be surprising. Jennings has been learning the offense the longest, and it would be tough to bring in someone from free agency and expect them to know it in time for the game.
Going into Week 6, it's unclear how much time Jennings will actually see on the field. Even with Gibson being out, the practice squad call-up is still behind both Rhamondre Stevenson and second-round rookie TreVeyon Henderson. If he were to see the field, Jennings could be in line for a good showing with the Saints being ranked 20th in run defense, surrendering 122.2 yards on the ground per game.
One area of his game that should excite fans is how Jennings never fumbled the ball in 383 career carries in his college career at Florida A&M. Given Stevenson's fumbling issues, Jennings could see the field if he were to fumble against the Saints, whose defense has forced four fumbles through five games so far.
With Jennings being elevated from the practice squad in Week 6, this is the first of three allowed elevations this season. Should Jennings impress in Week 6 and secure the third RB role, then a spot on the active roster could be his. If not, and he struggles, the Patriots could consider bringing in a more experienced veteran to fill the spot, whether that's Corbin or an outside name.
