Patriots Trade for All-Pro WR in Offseason Prediction
The New England Patriots are experiencing a ton of change this offseason. After firing Jerod Mayo after one season and giving the job to Mike Vrabel, the Patriots are seeking to overturn the roster.
Vrabel is finalizing his coaching staff, reuniting with a couple of former coaches. Ashton Grant was the latest coach to head over to New England.
The next couple of months will be critical, as the Patriots seek to add more talent to the roster. Rumors have started flying around. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler spoke with multiple NFL executives and coaches, who gave their predictions for the offseason.
One prediction that Fowler wrote about was the Patriots acquiring WR Tyreek Hill from the Miami Dolphins.
Patriots News: Patriots Predicted to Acquire Tyreek Hill
"The Patriots are desperate. They need a guy, that alpha that can be friendly for Drake Maye. And there's a higher chance of the draft picks [Miami would receive in a trade] being higher than with a contender."
- NFC personnel man
Following the Week 18 loss to the New York Jets, Hill was frustrated and let that be known. He said, "This is the first time I haven’t been in the playoffs. For me, I have to do what’s best for me and my family, if that’s here or wherever the case may be. I’m (going to) open that door for myself. I’m opening the door. I’m out, bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I’ve got to do what’s best for my career. ... I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.”
That opened up the door for trade rumors and the Patriots are believed to be a potential destination for the star playmaker.
With the Patriots and Dolphins being division rivals, a deal may not be too likely but you never know. It only takes one phone call to sway things in a different direction.
Hill is a five-time first-team All-Pro and eight-time Pro Bowler. Over nine seasons, he's supplied 798 receptions for 11,098 yards and 82 touchdowns with the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins.
He would be a dynamic weapon that would give Drake Maye a No. 1 option. The price tag to land a playmaker like Hill would be a Day 2 pick and some change.
There's a good chance that Hill is moved during the offseason and Patriot fans would be thrilled if he landed in New England.
