The New England Patriots are officially on the journey towards training cam after closing out their mandatory minicamp last week. The minicamp action, combined with the previous organized team activities (OTAs), gave head coach Mike Vrabel a better sense of what he has to work with on the 90-man roster heading into his first campaign behind the Patriots' bench.
For some Patriots, this offseason's works were the first of many they'll experience under the Vrabel-led coaching staff. On the other hand, some New England veterans likely just went through their last OTAs with the franchise, including one returning offensive lineman.
Patriots OT Vederian Lowe Just Attended Last OTAs with New England
It wouldn't be shocking to many Patriots fans if veteran blocker Vederian Lowe isn't back in town next offseason. The former 2022 Minnesota Vikings sixth-round pick is about to enter the final year of his rookie contract, and it's safe to say he's done little to prove he deserves another one from New England.
Lowe has been an OL mainstay since arriving in town, starting in 21 of his 25 appearances across the last two seasons. He's provided inadequate protection throughout his tenure, surrendering 71 pressures (52 hurries, 11 sacks, 8 QB hits) over the course of 1,278 offensive downs.
Although his 66.9 pass block grade in 2024 was solid, his Pro Football Focus grades regarding run protection (45.8) and overall offense (54.0) left much to be desired.
Fast forward to now when Lowe's outlook with the Patriots is abysmal, to say the least. New England signed veteran OT Morgan Moses to a three-year contract in free agency before using April's fourth-overall selection on rookie blocker Will Campbell, essentially punting Lowe from a starting spot to a reserve role.
While Moses and Williams' presence was bound to have a negative impact on him, Lowe further hurt himself by not having a memorable showing during OTAs and minicamp. Training camp and the NFL preseason are now his only options to prove himself to Patriots coaches, and it's safe to say his chances of doing so aren't great given his career-long struggles.
Unless he proves to Campbell & Co. that he's completely indispensable, Lowe likely won't be re-signed in 2026, meaning just finished his last OTAs as a New England Patriot.
