3 Celtics Playing Their Final Postseason in Boston
3. Luke Kornet, C
Like Horford, Luke Kornet is also in his second stint with the Celtics. And, just like the former, it could else be the end of the line for his time in Boston.
Kornet is set to hit free agency following a year where he's been a solid bench presence for the C's. He's been averaging about five points and four rebounds per game while shooting nearly 70.0% on his field-goal attempts. He even drew five starts when the injury bug popped up, resulting in his averaging 10.0 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in a lead role.
Assuming his solid play continues into the playoffs, I could see the Celtics being interested in re-signing him. At the same time, there's a good chance that big man-hungry teams will also have him on their radar following, arguably, his best performance to date.
Kornet played on a minimum contract over the last two seasons, so chances are he's looking for a bigger payday. I'm just unsure if the Celtics will be willing to pay that much more for a backup center, regardless of how well he's played. Jaylen Brown and Jrue Holiday's extensions kick in next season, so money will be a bit tighter than usual.
At the end of the day, Kornet has been solid and deserves to get paid. If that winds up happening in Boston, that's great, but it's safe to say I won't be holding my breath.
