3 Kickers the Patriots Should Draft to Compete With Chad Ryland

Chad Ryland's rookie season with the New England Patriots was nothing short of disappointing. That's why the Pats must target these three kickers at the 2024 NFL Draft to compete with Ryland in training camp.

2. Joshua Karty, Stanford

If the Patriots plan to draft a kicker at the end of the month, Joshua Karty is likely already on their radar. New England special teams assistant coach Tom Quinn was in attendance at Stanford's pro day in March, meaning he likely had his eye on the promising kicking prospect.

Karty is coming off a solid campaign with the Cardinal, further highlighting his reliability on special teams. The two-time first-team All-American kicker went a perfect 21-for-21 on extra-point tries — his second time doing so in three seasons — while only missing four of his 27 field-goal attempts (85.2%). He finishes his college run with a 98.6 XP% and 85.0 FG%.

Karty also didn't have any issues demonstrating his strength throughout his Stanford tenure. He made at least a 50-yard kick in each of his three seasons with the Cardinal and even dropped a program-record 61-yard bomb in 2022.

Considering how Ryland went an abysmal 7-for-14 (50%) from the 40-yard line or further as a rookie, it's easy to see how drafting Karty is a good idea.
