3 Low-Cost Playmakers the Patriots Should Target in Free Agency
Patriots Should Target TE Logan Thomas in Free Agency
It's safe to say that the Mike Gesicki experiment was a bust last season. The veteran tight end — who signed with the Cincinnati Bengals this offseason — struggled to generate offense opposite Hunter Henry, tallying just 244 yards and a pair of TDs on 29 receptions.
If the Patriots want to replace Gesicki with another TE who actually generated offense in 2023, look no further than Logan Thomas.
After an underwhelming 2022 campaign, Thomas turned things around in his fourth year with the Washington Commanders. The former Virginia Tech stud hauled in 55-of-78 targets (70.5%) for 496 yards and four touchdowns — all the second-best marks of his career.
Thomas also has familiarity with quarterback Jacoby Brissett (who signed with the Pats on a one-year deal) after the duo played with the Commanders last year. If New England opts to start Brissett over a rookie QB this fall, it makes sense to give the veteran gunslinger a target he's familiar with.
With four TDs on as many red-zone receptions last season, it's clear that Thomas is the type of playmaker that can improve the Patriots' attack.
