3 Patriots Already on the Chopping Block Before OTAs

3. Bailey Zappe, QB

Bailey Zappe got an opportunity to show his stuff as a starter for the Patriots the last couple of years, and he's largely impressed.

Although the Patriots appear to be moving on, Zappe should get a shot elsewhere in the league but we're going to have to wait and see on that one.

The Patriots obviously used their top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on North Carolina star Drake Maye. He's going to be the starter of this team at some point this year (in all likelihood), but if it's not him, it's going to be veteran Jacoby Brissett who signed a free agent contract to return to New England this offseason.

Brissett could be the guy to hold down the fort in 2024 if the Patriots determine that Drake Maye isn't ready, but where Zappe's roster spot is truly in jeopardy is with the addition of Joe Milton late in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Patriots.

Milton comes from Jerod Mayo's alma mater at Tennessee, and has a big arm with tremendous overall talent. Although Zappe brings more experience to the table, the Patriots will almost undoubtedly allow him to go be a QB2 somewhere else when the offseason is all said and done, paving the way for their new trio of quarterbacks to fill the roster.
