3 Patriots Draft Busts Who Could Be Cut This Offseason
2. Tyquan Thornton, wide receiver
One New England Patriots player who needs a big offseason unlike just about any other former high draft pick is Tyquan Thornton. The former Baylor speedster has really struggled to catch on in his first two NFL seasons, only flashing the occasional big-play ability.
But those flashes are too few and far between.
Thornton had two touchdown catches in his rookie season, but in year two, we almost saw absolutely nothing from him. He caught 13 passes for a total of 91 yards, which doesn't highlight his big-time speed or playmaking ability downfield at all. Out of 13 receptions, it's shocking for a player with this kind of athletic talent that only three went for first downs.
The Patriots have got to figure out the vision for Tyquan Thornton, and they've got to figure it out fast. This is a team with one of the worst offensive skill position groups in the entire league. When you look at New England's depth chart at receiver, how is it possible that someone like Thornton isn't projected as the #1 guy going into his third season?
The development here has been a complete failure at this point. Thornton is one preseason struggle bus away from having to hitch a ride out of town as the latest high draft pick at receiver for the Patriots to fail.
