3 Patriots Most Likely to Be Traded Before Roster Cutdown Day
The New England Patriots haven't been shy about making bold moves in recent weeks. They already released veteran wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster after he turned out to be a complete bust of a free agent signing last year. They followed up that move with the decision to trade a frustrated Matthew Judon over to the reloading Atlanta Falcons.
Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo is assembling a team full of players who hopefully all want to be part of what he's building. The Patriots aren't likely done making moves, however, as they continue to reshape their roster and prepare for the season. Even though this isn't a team that is just overloaded with depth and talent all over the place, they could still be a team with a number of tradable assets heading into the regular season.
Which players are in line to potentially be traded at roster cutdown time?
1. Marco Wilson, cornerback
One area where the New England Patriots may have more players that can fit on their 53-man roster right now is in the defensive backfield. We saw the Patriots trade Jack Jones last season and they've just continued to cycle through players who should have significant roles for the upcoming season.
So a player like Marco Wilson coming in and having a strong offseason presents potential trade value for the Pats, especially because he's going to bring athleticism and versatility to the table. Would the Patriots be willing to part with Wilson after the strong offseason he's had? Anybody's going to be available for the right price...
Wilson was a fourth-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals back in 2021, pressed into starting duty, and he struggled a bit, to say the least. The Patriots claimed him off of waivers late last year and he's put enough out there this year to probably get looks from other teams if the Patriots decide they are deep enough at cornerback.
