3 Patriots Who've Locked Up a Roster Spot Before Preseason Finale
3. Trysten Hill, Defensive Line
Any Dallas Cowboys fan who may have stumbled upon this post out of curiosity for how things are going with Trysten Hill may want to look away. Hill was a second-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2019 and his failure to develop not only frustrated the fans in Dallas, but really set that unit back significantly as the Cowboys have needed a consistent presence on the interior defensive line.
Well, Hill may not be in line to be the next Aaron Donald in New England, but with Christian Barmore's blood clot situation and the recent decision to release Mike Purcell, I think it's pretty safe to say that Hill's roster spot is all but assured.
The Patriots are going to need the depth on the interior defensive line, and the traits that made Hill a second-round pick once upon a time are the same traits that could end up making him one of the most interesting bottom-of-the-roster guys on this Patriots team.
You just never know when guys are going to realize their potential in the NFL, and the Patriots are kind of the perfect storm of a situation for Hill to excel.
Hill just turned 26 years old this past March. He's got plenty of good football years ahead of him if he can figure things out on a consistent basis, and that appears to be happening with the New England Patriots. Given their situation right now on the defensive line, I don't think there's even a question that you keep around a guy like this with upside both for short and long-term.
