3. Bailey Zappe, Quarterback

The way the Patriots have treated Bailey Zappe this offseason is a little ridiculous.

Yes, everyone knows that this quarterback room is going to belong to Drake Maye eventually. Yes, everyone knows that this quarterback job belongs to Jacoby Brissett right now. But after the Patriots made the decision to draft Joe Milton in the 6th round of the 2024 NFL Draft, they really put the writing on the wall for Bailey Zappe.

And you can't help but feel bad for the guy...

The preseason is going to be another opportunity for Zappe to audition for other teams. And to be clear, to say Bailey Zappe hasn't "shown up" at training camp needs to be adjusted a little bit -- the Patriots haven't shown up for him.

They should have gotten him on another roster much earlier in the offseason. Zappe has shown enough in his brief opportunities as a starter to get a job elsewhere in the league. Heck, the Green Bay Packers jumped out off the top of my head as a team that could use an upgrade in the QB2 department.

But Zappe is going to be asked to go out there in the preseason and execute while throwing to backups, knowing that he's not going to be with the Patriots, and doing it without getting any reps in team during practice?

This is ridiculous. The Patriots have failed Bailey Zappe. They didn't do the wrong thing by resetting their quarterback position this offseason, but you'd better believe that other players on the roster and around the league are noticing the way they're treating Zappe now and taking note.
