5 Patriots Who Will Leave With Bill Belichick
2. Matthew Slater, ST
There are few players who are as synonymous with the New England Patriots as legendary special teams player Matthew Slater. I think if Bill Belichick were to leave the Patriots, Slater would either follow him or call it a career. How do you last in the NFL from 2008-to-present with just one career reception when your listed position is as a wide receiver?
You make yourself an impossible to replace special teams player, that's how. Matthew Slater is one of the best special teams players to ever do it, there's no question about it, and I can't imagine him wanting to play for another head coach besides Bill Belichick.
3. Mike Onwenu, OG
Starting offensive guard Mike Onwenu is going to be a highly sought after free agent in 2024 and if Bill Belichick leaves the Patriots, I think he'd probably go hard after the former Michigan star. Not only has Onwenu been a stud at the guard position, but lately, we've also seen him excel at right tackle.
There's a chance Onwenu has played so well at this point that he won't escape New England without getting the franchise tag. If he does hit free agency, you can bet Belichick is going to want him, whether he's with the Patriots or someone else.
