3. Kayshon Boutte, Wide Receiver

More than his on-field performance, Kayshon Boutte could be on the roster bubble in New England because of a gambling situation that has him in some hot water legally.

Pro Football Talk explains here:

"The Louisiana State Police said in January that Boutte faces one felony count of computer fraud and one misdemeanor count of gaming prohibited for persons under 21 after an online gambling company gave information to law enforcement that resulted in an investigation finding that Boutte placed more than 8,900 bets between April 6, 2022 and May 7, 2023. Boutte turned 21 on May 7, 2023 and it would have been illegal for him to place sports bets in Louisiana before he turned 21."

The former LSU star certainly has plenty of talent and when the Patriots landed him in the 6th round of last year's draft, a lot of folks in the NFL Draft community felt like they had gotten themselves a huge bargain.

Playing just five games last year, Boutte saw seven targets and hauled in a pair of passes. He's not exactly in a "deep" room of receivers in New England in terms of guys with proven abilities, but the Patriots have plenty of alternate options if they need to move on from him or if he faces discipline from the NFL.

And if Boutte faces NFL discipline for gambling, the Patriots will almost undoubtedly decide to move on from him anyway.
