6 Patriots on the Chopping Block After 2024 Minicamp
5. Joshua Bledsoe, Safety
You'll notice that most of the players on this chopping block list are actually offensive players for the Patriots, but it is going to be the most difficult for fringe roster players to make the team defensively.
Isn't it?
This is still one of the better defenses in the league despite the fact that the Patriots are coming off of a horrendous record. Dealing with the worst starting field position out of any defense in the entire league, the Patriots still managed to allow just over 21 points per game with the 6th-best third-down defense and the 6th-best red zone defense in the NFL.
Cracking this defense is going to be tough, especially with all of the guys the Patriots brought back. One position group that seems a little overloaded right now is at safety, and former 6th-round pick Joshua Bledsoe is going to have a tough time making it on this roster. The Patriots have a top four right now of Kyle Dugger, Jabrill Peppers, Marte Mapu (who is expected to make a big jump in year two), as well as former Charger Jaylinn Hawkins.
Bledsoe has barely appeared in any games for the Patriots (four) since he was drafted in 2021 and his roster chances are seemingly hanging on by a thread at this point. With the depth the Patriots have in the secondary right now, it would be shocking to see Bledsoe on the final 53-man roster come September.
