4. Calvin Anderson, tackle

As cool as it would be to see Calvin Anderson in the mix to actually start for the Patriots at the left tackle position, it's hard to see that happening at this point.

Anderson was a free agent pickup by the Patriots who previously played for the Denver Broncos. Anderson was once poached by the Denver Broncos off the New York Jets practice squad and the Broncos molded him into a solid swing tackle option. Solid enough for the Patriots to sign him to a two-year, $7 million deal.

But injury and health issues prevented Anderson from playing at all last season, a scary situation overall which resulted in Anderson having a life-threatening case of malaria

Anderson agreed to a restructured one-year deal worth $2 million in total money with the Patriots, so he’s providing them inexpensive depth at a crucial position at the very worst. But right now, it feels like the Patriots are moving forward with free agent signing Chukwuma Okorafor as the team’s starting left tackle. They signed Mike Onwenu back in free agency and used a third-round pick on tackle prospect Caedan Wallace.

The Patriots also traded for tackles Vederian Lowe and Tyrone Wheatley Jr.

Where does that leave someone like Anderson? If he has a solid offseason, there will be teams out there willing to send New England something to take him off their hands. The Patriots shouldn’t just dump him, but if they get a fair offer in a trade, they have set themselves up with some decent depth at the position, at least on paper.
