Another Patriot Now Likely to Miss Rest of Season Due to Injury
By Cem Yolbulan
When the 2024 NFL season kicked off, Patriots fans were under no illusion that their team would be good or competitive this season. The first year under new head coach Jerod Mayo was supposed to be about development and talent evaluation. The team's 1-3 record and overall performance shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody.
At the same time, the first month of the season was a bigger nightmare than many had thought due to the injuries. The offensive line has been depleted all season, severely limiting the offensive production. Now, things have taken a turn for the worse with the latest injury update.
According to Patriots insider Mark Daniels, starting center David Andrews requires surgery on his shoulder and if he does, he will be out for the rest of the season.
Patriots News: David Andrews Might Miss the Rest of Season
This is a major blow for the Patriots. Andrews has been one constant on this short-handed offensive line. He is one of the longest-tenured Patriots on the team and is one of the most experienced and competent veterans.
Andrews will reportedly get "multiple medical opinions" according to Daniels before making a decision. This will largely depend on what it means for the 32-year-old's NFL future.
The two-time Super Bowl champ has considered retirement in the 2024 offseason before deciding to return to the Patriots. A shoulder surgery at this stage of his career will have a major impact on his future as retirement would likely be on the table.
If Andrews were to miss time, Nick Leverett will likely start at center considering that Jake Andrews, who was drafted last year to eventually take over at center, is also out for the year.
This is obviously not the news Patriots fans wanted to hear but let's hope we get a positive update on Andrews and his injury soon.
