Heading into their Week 12 matchup against the New York Giants, the New England Patriots have some major uncertainty at the quarterback position. Mac Jones' poor performance in Germany left a bitter taste in everyone's mouths before the bye, and now it's unclear whether Jones will start this week.

As usual, Bill Belichick failed to provide any clarity on the situation when asked about it on Tuesday.

Belichick said he told all of his players to be ready to play on Sunday, which is presumably (hopefully?) what he tells them every week.

In this case, though, he could be suggesting that a change is looming. If Jones is going to ride the bench, then Bailey Zappe and Will Grier need to be ready to play in his place.

Belichick added that he won't provide a firm answer on who's starting until Sunday. It could be that he's trying to keep Giants head coach Brian Daboll (a former assistant of his) on his toes, It could also mean that Belichick legitimately hasn't made up his mind yet and will make a decision based on who looks better in practice this week.

It's also possible that Belichick is trying to motivate Jones by implying that his job is in jeopardy. If Jones wants to start on Sunday, he needs to push himself and prove he deserves it.

Whatever his motivations, Belichick loves to keep opponents and the media guessing. There's a decent chance he already knows who's starting on Sunday, but he doesn't want to tip his hand yet.
