Bill Belichick Turned Down Another NFC West Coaching Job After Pats Split
By Jovan Alford
Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was determined to bypass any coaching opportunities this offseason that didn’t involve being a head coach.
The former Patriots head coach was reportedly offered any role he wanted, including defensive coordinator by San Francisco 49ers Kyle Shanahan. However, Shanahan said Belichick politely declined the offer.
At the time, it didn’t come as a surprise to read that Belichick turned down the opportunity, as he wants to be a head coach next season and has received multiple media opportunities for this season.
However, the 49ers weren’t the only NFC West team looking at Belichick for a coordinator role this offseason.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Los Angeles Rams also considered the former Patriots head coach for their vacant defensive coordinator position this offseason.
Los Angeles saw defensive coordinator Raheem leave the organization to become the Atlanta Falcons head coach, leaving the Rams with a role to fill. The Rams reportedly had Belichick on their wish list, but he has other plans.
Schefter also reports that Belichick would like to return to coaching in 2025 and is expected to be choosy if and when he comes back to the sidelines.
The six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach only interviewed for the Atlanta Falcons head coaching vacancy in the offseason. At the time, it seemed as though Belichick was the frontrunner for the role, but Atlanta went with Morris.
The 71-year-old Belichick would’ve been a nice addition to the Rams coaching staff as they have multiple young players on defense worth developing. However, he will be able to watch to see which teams could part ways with their current head coaches and if those teams are worth his time.
