Bills Reportedly Screwed Patriots Out of Coveted WR in NFL Draft
This offseason has been all about change for the New England Patriots. After a terrible 2023 season, the team decided to flip things around and go into a new direction in 2024.
The Pats' offense was absolutely terrible, ranking 30th in total offense (276.2), 28th in pass offense (180.5), and tied for 31st in scoring offense (13.9). Things had to change and GM Eliot Wolf made sure that happened.
In the NFL Draft, New England snagged Drake Maye at No. 3 overall to become the next franchise quarterback but they were reportedly looking to trade back into the first round to select a playmaker to pair with Maye.
Unfortunately for them, the Buffalo Bills prevented the Pats from moving back into the first round.
Patriots News: New England Wanted to Trade Up for Xavier Worthy
Michael Lombardi was a guest on the 'Pat McAfee Show' and talked about the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots.
Lombardi said, " They [Buffalo Bills] had an opportunity to take a deal from New England. New England was in high speed pursuit of Xavier Worthy and they wanted Worthy badly. They were making calls to get that pick and Buffalo had them on the phone."
Lombardi added that Kansas City did offer the Bills more but the Chiefs have owned Buffalo over the past few years.
That makes the move a little bit more head-scratching. On night one of the draft, Kansas City sent picks No. 32, No. 95, and No. 221 to Buffalo in exchange for No. 28, No. 133, and No. 248.
Kansas City ended up selecting Texas WR Xavier Worthy. The Pats were locked in on him, as he ran a record-breaking 4.21 40-yard dash. Across three seasons at Texas, Worthy had 197 receptions for 2,755 receiving yards, and 26 touchdowns.
Eliot Wolf and company wanted the speedy WR in Foxborough but they were stopped by their division rival Bills.
