The New England Patriots surprisingly took two quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft as they drafted Drake Maye in Round 1 and Joe Milton III in Round 6. It was expected that the Pats were taking a quarterback at No. 3 overall, it was just a matter of who (Maye or Jayden Daniels).

However, no one expected them to use a late-round pick on Milton, especially with the Pats having Jacoby Brissett entrenched as the QB2 on the roster.

Nonetheless, Maye is excited to have Milton joining him in Foxborough as he tweeted on social media, “Joe Cool, Congrats bro" with the fire emoji.

Patriots News: Drake Maye Welcomes QB Competition

Even though they are competitors, it’s exciting to see Maye welcoming and supporting Milton as they will be in the same quarterback room. Maye will get the first opportunity to compete for the starting job this season, but Milton can help solidify himself as the team's future QB2.

At the same time, seeing Maye do this is a breath of fresh air for Patriots fans as there was a brewing beef between Mac Jones and backup Bailey Zappe last season. During the 2023 season, there were reports about Jones and how most of the team lost faith in him.

Then when Jones was traded, Zappe liked a post on Instagram about the former first-round pick being traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Thus far, it seems like the Patriots will not have the same problems as Maye and Milton, who will try to get the quarterback position back on track in New England.
