Failed Former Patriots Playmaker Joins AFC Foe Ahead of Week 4
By Ryan Bunton
Almost a week after the Patriots released Jalen Reagor when he made his disgruntlement known on social media, Reagor has landed with a new team.
The wide receiver agreed to sign with the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad on Monday. Reagor visited with the team earlier in the day.
NFL News: Jalen Reagor Lands With Chargers Ahead of Week 4
In 11 games with the Patriots, Reagor caught only seven passes on 23 targets for 138 yards. Reagor also returned kicks, including a 98-yard return for a touchdown on the first play of New England's Week 17 game last season.
The former first-rounder was signed to the Patriots practice squad in Aug. 2023 after being waived by the Minnesota Vikings one day prior. In March, Reagor and New England agreed on a one-year deal to bring him back to Foxborough. Reagor was a casualty of final roster cuts following this preseason and re-signed to the practice squad.
Reagor was released by the Patriots last week on the same day on which he had an interesting Instagram story. New England's passing attack has struggled mightily through three games, ranking dead-last in passing yards per game. Ironically, Reagor's new squad – the Los Angeles Chargers –rank second-to-last.
Ultimately, Reagor is a former first-round pick that is still only 25 years old, so there should be some upside there. Now on his fourth team, though, it feels like Reagor's chances at making an impact are continuously slipping away. No wonder the Minnesota Vikings were laughing at the Philadelphia Eagles for taking Reagor over Justin Jefferson on draft night.
The Patriots host the Chargers on Dec. 29 in a Week 17 matchup. It will be interesting to see if Reagor is active for Los Angeles in a return against his former team.
