The New England Patriots have shockingly decided to part ways with a notable veteran player just two days before their Week 3 matchup against the New York Jets.

According to Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald, the Patriots released wide receiver Jalen Reagor from the practice squad. The decision to cut Reagor from New England’s practice squad comes on the heels of the former first-round pick posting a cryptic image/meme on Instagram.

The 25-year-old wide receiver was placed on the Pats’ practice late last month after he missed the cut for the 53-man roster deadline. Last season, Reagor played in 11 games with the Pats after he was signed to the practice squad last summer.

The 5-foot-11 wide receiver had a pedestrian statline of seven receptions (23 targets) for 138 yards.

While he couldn’t find his footing on offense, Reagor made some noise on special teams for the Patriots. The former first-round pick recorded a kickoff return touchdown for 98 yards in Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills.

Before he joined the Patriots last summer, Reagor spent the first three years of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings.

It’s surprising to see the Patriots move on from Reagor after his latest social media post, but it's clear that head coach Jerod Mayo and the front office are laying down the ground rules on what will and will not be tolerated.

After having his tenure with the Patriots cut short, it will be interesting to see if Reagor lands another opportunity. He's still young, but hasn't done much in his NFL career to warrant a spot on a practice squad or 53-man roster.
