As the NFL trade deadline looms, the New England Patriots may be looking to shake things up. With one veteran's name frequently surfacing in trade rumors, ESPN's NFL insiders predict the Patriots could be selling high on offseason acquisition.

There are only a few days to go until the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline, and trade rumors are heating up across the league. The New England Patriots are expected to be busy this year, either as sellers after their slow start or as buyers in a desperate attempt to turn things around.

ESPN believes the Patriots will be sellers at the deadline based on an article published earlier this week. Their NFL insiders were tasked with naming the most likely trade candidate on each team, and New England beat writer Mike Reiss picked Mike Gesicki.

Patriots Trade Rumors

The veteran tight end has been a popular name in trade rumors lately, especially after scoring the game-winning touchdown against the Buffalo Bills in Week 7. Some believe the Patriots will try to leverage that moment to sell high on Gesicki, who is on a one-year deal and will be a free agent at the end of the season.

If New England isn't going to bring Gesicki back, it might as well try to get something for him. The veteran tight end has been a solid contributor in the Patriots' offense this year, bringing in 17 of his 22 targets for 149 yards and a touchdown.

Tight end is also a position of strength for New England, so the team doesn't really need him right now. Hunter Henry is locked in as the Pats' TE1 and Pharaoh Brown has emerged as a solid TE3. If New England deals Gesicki that would open up more playing time for Brown,

Brown has been a much bigger playmaker than Gesicki. Despite drawing only 5 targets so far, he has nearly as many receiving yards (137) and the same number of touchdowns (1) as Gesicki.

If the Patriots lose to Gesicki's old team (the Miami Dolphins) this weekend and fall to 2-6, don't be surprised if Gesicki gets shipped out.
