Last week was a whirlwind for Jack Jones. The second-year cornerback started the week with the New England Patriots, only to be cut by the Patriots on Monday, picked up by the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday and make his Raiders debut on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.
While Las Vegas lost, 20-13, that didn't stop Jones from taking a shot at his old coach on social media after the game.
On his Instagram story, Jones posted a picture of him with Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce. Jones captioned the picture "Feel good to be wit the best coach in America."
That's an obvious dig at Bill Belichick, who made the decision to release Jones last Monday. It's understandable that Jones is still bitter towards his old boss, as no one likes getting fired.
Still, calling Pierce "the best coach in America" is a gross overstatement. Pierce has coached 3 games in the NFL so far and is 2-1. Belichick owns 300 regular-season wins (plus six Super Bowl titles) and is closing in on the all-time wins record. It's not even a comparison who is the better coach.
That said, it's notable that Pierce and Belichick have the same number of wins this season (2) even though Pierce didn't start coaching until November. He's helped turn Las Vegas' season around in the wake of Josh McDaniels' firing and has managed to keep the team in playoff contention.
Belichick, meanwhile, has built an absolute dumpster fire in New England. His roster is a joke, his quarterback is broken and he has the Patriots headed towards a top draft pick instead of a postseason berth.
Is Pierce the best coach in America? Hardly. Belichick used to be, but he's not anymore.
