The New England Patriots' bye week is here, and after a 2-8 start, some players are expected to lose their jobs.

In fact, one player already has, as the Patriots made a shocking roster move to kick off the bye week on Monday.

Patriots Cut Jack Jones

New England is waiving cornerback Jack Jones, according to his agent.

The Patriots have apparently had enough of their troublesome starting cornerback, who has given them plenty of headaches this year. They started back in June when Jones was charged with unlawful possession of two firearms at Logan Airport in Boston. The charges were later dropped and Jones avoided disciplinary action, but that was only the start.

Jones ended up missing the start of the season anyway due to a hamstring injury, which landed him on IR. He didn't return until Week 7, by which point New England was 1-5 and watching its season spin out of control.

Rather than come to the rescue to a defense that desperately needed him after losing Christian Gonzalez, Jones continued to cause problems. His performance underwhelmed and he was benched after missing team curfew prior to the Patriots' Week 9 loss to the Washington Commanders.

Unlike fellow cornerback J.C. Jackson, Jones was still allowed to travel with the team to Germany. Unfortunately, however, it sounds like his behavior did not improve.

Jones' selfish attitude and lack of engagement are alarming and had to be dealt with. While you can't really blame someone for checking out in the middle of a 2-8 season, Belichick expects players to do their jobs and obviously wouldn't tolerate such before from Jones.

Still, this is a hugely disappointing outcome for the 2022 fourth-round pick, who was expected to help anchor New England's defense for at least a few more seasons. Jones put together a promising rookie season last year with 2 interceptions, a forced fumble and 30 tackles in 13 games, but unfortunately his career has gone in the other direction since then.

Time will tell where Jones lands and if he's able to get back on track, but the Patriots' patience with him had finally run out.
