Heading into their Week 5 matchup against the Miami Dolphins, the New England Patriots and head coach Jerod Mayo was put in an interesting spot by its team reporter.

Evan Lazar, a staff writer for the Patriots website, said on the Catch-22 podcast that there’s a lot of frustration in the locker room and described the sentiment as a ‘mutiny’. He also added that the defense is mad at the defense and the offense is mad at the offense.

Lazar’s comments caught fire quickly and in response to what he said several Patriots players spoke out to defend first-year head coach Jerod Mayo.

On Monday afternoon, New England starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett was asked about the mutiny allegation/report on WEEI. Brissett didn’t have much to say about the report but made it a point to say that it was “terrible reporting.”

"No, that's just terrible reporting. Terrible reporting by somebody who has no idea what they're talking about,” Brissett said (h/t Mark Daniels of MassLive.com)

It’s clear Brissett didn’t want to give that accusation the light of day but as one of the leaders of the locker room, he did what he had to do.

Neither the veteran quarterback nor the Patriots have had an easy 2024 season, but that was to be expected after making a regime change.

The Patriots have dropped four consecutive games after losing to the Miami Dolphins, 15-10 on Sunday. Brissett completed 18-of-34 passes for 160 yards and was sacked twice.

Despite their struggles through the first five weeks of the season, the Patriots haven’t given up on their head coach, which is a good sign, and Brissett’s comments confirm that.
