The New England Patriots are not in a good position to start October. The Patriots suffered their fourth-straight defeat on Sunday, losing 15-10 to the Miami Dolphins.

In addition to the tough loss, it was reported on Monday that starting safety Jabrill Peppers was arrested on Saturday and facing charges including strangulation, assault and battery, and possession of a Class B substance.

The star safety did not play in Sunday’s game against Miami and will be reportedly arranged on Monday in Quincy District Court. Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo gave his first remarks about Peppers’ arrest on Monday when speaking on WEEI.

“He called me that morning. I knew what was going on,” Mayo said on The Greg Hill Show (h/t ESPN’s Mike Reiss). “We’ve informed the NFL what was going on and we’re still gathering information… I don’t think anyone knows the facts or anything like that. It’s a process.”

Mayo met with the media on Monday and said he addressed the situation with the team, and the message is being kept private, per Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald. Mayo added Peppers won’t be in the building today due to his court appearance and again said the team is still gathering information.

The Patriots also released an official statement regarding Peppers but didn’t comment on the details, per Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald.

If you are head coach Jerod Mayo and the rest of the Patriots’ front office brass, this is the last thing you want to hear given how the season has started and that Peppers is viewed as one of the leaders on the team.
