It's finally game week! The New England Patriots are traveling to play the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 8.

It's been an offseason full of change for the Patriots and there may not have been a bigger move than the one at the quarterback position. New England added Jacoby Brissett and rookie Drake Maye into the fold.

Those two men were battling for the QB1 spot but Brissett was handed the starting role. But despite Mayo deciding to hand Brissett the keys, he continues to stir the pot around the competition.

Patriots News: Jerod Mayo Still Discussing QB Battle

As a guest on The Greg Hill Show, Mayo addressed the comment that he said regarding Maye outplaying Brissett in the preseason.

"I should have given more context to the comment at the time. Drake had more playing time in the preseason than Jacoby, and that was intentional."

It is a bit interesting that Mayo is still talking about the QB battle since he named Brissett the starter. We know that Maye is the quarterback of the future but the 38-year-old head coach has praised the rookie signal caller for this play this summer.

He also revealed that Maye got more playing time in the preseason but that wasn't a shocker. He's a rookie so getting all the reps he can is crucial. In addition, the UNC product flashed in those outings. In the preseason, Maye went 21-of-34 for 192 yards and one touchdown.

But instead of just backing your veteran quarterback and saying he's the man for the job, Mayo continues to talk about Maye's play this summer.

And that just keeps the door open for interpretation.
