Joe Flacco-Patriots Rumors Get Major Update
This NFL offseason is going to be interesting for the Patriots. It's a new era in New England. Bill Belichick is out. Jerod Mayo is in. And it looks like Mac Jones is also on his way out of town. It's been reported that the Patriots are going to reshape their QB room for the 2024 campaign.
According to Mark Daniels of Mass Live, New England plans to draft a QB with the No. 3 overall pick and sign a veteran signal-caller as well.
With $101 million in cap space, the Patriots have the funds to snag a veteran to help mentor a young QB. There are a few interesting options out there and ESPN's Adam Schefter hinted at a big one.
Patriots News: Joe Flacco Could an Option at QB for New England in 2024
Schefter was on the Pat McAfee Show and talked about the potential addition of Flacco for the Patriots. He said, "Who was the offensive coordinator in Cleveland last year? Where is Alex Van Pelt this year?"
On Feb. 1, the Patriots hired Alex Van Pelt to be their offensive coordinator after being the OC with the Cleveland Browns from 2020-2023.
Flacco joined Cleveland last season and helped lead them go 4-1, en route to a playoff berth. The 39-year-old still owns a powerful throwing arm and can make throws on all three levels on the field. In 2023, Flacco completed 60% of his throws for 1,616 yards with 13 passing scores and eight interceptions.
Those numbers helped him secure the 2023 AP Comeback Player of the Year award. Flacco could be the perfect veteran signal-caller that New England brings in this offseason.
