The New England Patriots are in the midst of training camp in Foxborough. They know it'll be an uphill climb in the first season under new head coach Jerod Mayo.

He took over a team that needed a lot of work on the offensive end but had some quality guys on defense.

With the second week of training camp underway, one key Patriot suffered an injury.

Patriots News: Jabrill Peppers Suffers Lower Body Injury

In Monday's practice, Peppers was seen walking off the field with what appeared to be a lower-body injury. The specifics have not been revealed but this caused the former Michigan standout to miss Tuesday's practice.

He wasn't dressed on Tuesday and was seen watching practice with second-year linebacker Marte Mapu.

This comes a few days after Peppers signed a three-year, $24 million extension that could go up to $30 million.

This isn't ideal for a guy who just inked a nice extension but football is a physical game so injuries will happen.

New England's first preseason game goes down on Aug. 8 against the Carolina Panthers so he has some time before the action begins.

Hopefully, this injury isn't serious as Peppers was one of the best players for the Pats last year. He compiled 78 total tackles, five tackles for loss, eight pass deflections, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.

The 28-year-old was one of the best at his position, logging the fifth-highest overall grade at safety per PFF at 87.3.

His presence is always felt on the field so the Pats would love to get No. 5 back out there.
