Matthew Judon Breaks Silence After Patriots Practice Incident
By Jovan Alford
The ongoing Matthew Judon-Patriots saga hit a boiling point last week at training camp as the veteran pass rusher and first-year head coach Jerod Mayo had an animated disagreement.
That convo between Judon and Mayo caught the attention of many Pats fans on social media and fanned the flames even more. However, the 31-year-old Judon eventually returned to camp later in the week and participated in a padded practice – a stark difference from what he did during last year’s hold-on.
Judon spoke with reporters on Monday for the first time since training camp began. The veteran outside linebacker said he didn’t practice last week because “he had something going on,” per Mike Giradi of the Boston Sports Journal.
According to Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald, Judon understands he needs to play on his contract so he doesn’t get fined. However, the veteran defender also said that the fact he hasn’t signed a new contract isn’t up to him.
Judon also opted against talking about what he posts on social media, which isn’t surprising as he’s made some noise about what he said or retweeted.
Nonetheless, the Patriots hope that everything that took place last week is behind Judon and they can work on getting a new deal done soon. Thus far in training camp, we’ve seen Jabrill Peppers and Davon Godchaux receive contract extensions from the Patriots.
Conventional wisdom says that the Pats will get something done with Judon, but everything that happened last week likely didn’t help the situation. However, it looks like Judon was in a better mood when he walked into his presser, so hopefully, that’s a sign of things to come.
