Matthew Judon Takes Major Step in Patriots Contract Dispute
The New England Patriots and EDGE Matthew Judon have been in a battle with each other for a while now.
The Pats are in the midst of a rebuild but that doesn't seem to faze Judon. He wants a new deal and that hasn't happened yet. Both sides are reportedly far apart on extension talks. That led to some drama between Judon and head coach Jerod Mayo, where Judon walked off the practice field.
Now a few days later, there was a positive spin between these the two sides.
Patriots News: Matthew Judon Practiced on Friday
Per Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald, Judon participated in an 11-on-11 drill during the padded practice. This was the first time he had done that since his contract dispute started.
A few days ago, many people wouldn't have envisioned this happening.
Although Judon is looking to cash in, him taking part in practice is a positive step forward. This offseason, the Pats had given extensions to Jabrill Peppers, Josh Uche, Kyle Dugger, Hunter Henry, Mike Onwenu, Kendrick Bourne, Christian Barmore, Anfernee Jennings, Rhamondre Stevenson, and Davon Godchaux.
This shows they aren't afraid of extending guys inside the building but it has to be at the right price.
Judon has been in New England since 2021 and has been one of the most effective EDGE rushers in the league.
He is 10th in the NFL in sacks (32) since 2021 but his $14.6 million cap hit is underpaid for an effective pass rusher.
The ten highest-paid pass rushers in the NFL are making at least $22 million so Judon rightfully wants an extension.
Taking part in practice is the first step towards resolving this problem.
