Miami Heat Still Delusional About their Chances Against the Celtics

A Heat legend still laughably thinks Miami is a big threat against the Boston Celtics.

The Boston Celtics were crowned the 2024 NBA Champions after a dominating season. After going 64-18 in the regular season and 16-3 in the playoffs, the Celtics have established themselves as one of the best teams in modern history.

What is scary for the rest of the league is the fact that the Celtics will keep their core for at least another season. Not only all the key players are under contract but also other than Al Horford, none of them is a serious candidate to decline significantly.

This makes the Celtics the team to beat in the Eastern Conference and the NBA for the foreseeable future. The talking heads have already started to think about which teams could potentially take them down next season. The Miami Heat icon Udonis Haslem had perhaps the most delusional take of them all. Haslem, who spent 20 seasons playing for Miami and is now the VP of basketball development there, said the Heat are the biggest threat to the Celtics.

Udonis Haslem Has Delusional Take About the Boston Celtics

To be fair, Haslem is right to a certain degree. The Miami Heat have been the biggest challengers to the Celtics over the last couple of seasons. They defeated Boston in the 2020 and 2023 Eastern Conference Finals.

However, both teams are vastly different right now. Jimmy Butler is going to be 35 before the start of next season. Calling Tyler Herro "a young superstar" is a ridiculous categorization. Naming Nikola Jovic, Terry Rozier, and Duncan Robinson as part of some sort of elite roster is laughable, especially considering the Boston Celtics roster.

Those Celtics teams that lost to Miami didn't have Jrue Holiday or Kristaps Porzingis. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are much better players now. No team in the NBA can have the talent and the depth the Celtics possess, but the Miami Heat definitely don't. It's time Haslem is more realistic about where each of these teams stand.
