Patriots 53-Man Roster Prediction Ahead of 2024 Training Camp
Cornerback - 6 (48/53)
- Christian Gonzalez
- Jonathan Jones
- Marcus Jones
- Alex Austin
- Marcellas Dial
- Shaun Wade
The cornerback position for the New England Patriots is one of the top wild cards on the roster – a position group with an extremely high ceiling and also an extremely high variance in overall outcomes. Last year, neither Christian Gonzalez nor Marcus Jones played a lot due to injury. But if those guys can stay on the field, they attack the football as well as most guys you’ll see coming out of the college level.
Not to mention, Marcus Jones provides the Patriots with one of the league’s biggest secret weapons with the new kickoff return format.
The depth at the cornerback position for New England is nothing to write home about as of right now but there are some intriguing young guys including 2024 6th-round pick Marcellas Dial, whose athletic traits could lead to an immediate role on special teams.
Safety - 5 (53/53)
- Kyle Dugger
- Jabrill Peppers
- Marte Mapu
- Jaylinn Hawkins
- Joshuah Bledsoe
If there’s one position group in New England that tops the edge rusher position in quality and depth, it’s got to be the safety position. Kyle Dugger is an absolute menace out there who played over 1,100 snaps last season and racked up 109 total tackles, six tackles for loss, seven passes defensed, two interceptions, and five quarterback hits.
Jabrill Peppers has really turned out to be a player for the Patriots and led the team with eight passes broken up last season.
The team is extremely high on young Marte Mapu, who had an interception and forced fumble despite barely playing 200 snaps defensively last season. Jaylinn Hawkins and Joshuah Bledsoe provide the Patriots with some nice depth on the back end as well as special teams abilities, especially in Hawkins’ case. He played 251 special teams snaps last season.
