3. Sorting out who will take snaps at wide receiver

In addition to prioritizing the quarterback situation and making sure they don't stunt Drake Maye's growth in any way, the Patriots have to answer some important questions about who is going to play wide receiver this coming season.

Last year, I don't even know if you could argue that the Patriots had the worst set of offensive skill players in the entire NFL. Especially after Kendrick Bourne got hurt, this team really struggled to find anyone to step up at receiver. That situation has really paved the way for a lot of new players to step up in 2024.

The Patriots used a second-round pick on former Washington star receiver Ja'Lynn Polk, and Polk figures to have a huge role in the offense alongside Bourne in 2024. New England also went out and signed former Vikings receiver KJ Osborn, who has a nice history of production in a limited role from his time in Minnesota.

There are fair questions being asked about guys like former second-round pick Tyquan Thornton and former big-money free agent JuJu Smith-Schuster, and whether or not those guys will have any sort of role going forward. Given the lack of effectiveness and efficiency we saw from Smith-Schuster last year, it's hard to fathom the Patriots just handing him a massive target share in 2024.

The Patriots need to prioritize youth at this position and make sure opportunities are given for the recent draft picks to shine with the presumed upgrades at quarterback.
