Patriots Already Cutting Rookie Addition to Begin Camp
The New England Patriots have been one of the most active teams throughout the offseason. They have a lot of different moving parts all across the team with head coach Jerod Mayo and Eliot Wolf in charge of running the ship.
Now that we are into late July, training camps are starting to begin. The Pats have rookies reporting to the building on July 19 and the vets are slated to join them on July 23.
The Pats have an uphill climb before becoming a serious threat in the AFC again and they are already parting ways with a rookie.
Pats News: Jontrey Hunter Is Released
According to Mike Reiss, New England released rookie linebacker Jontrey Hunter on July 22. When rookies reported to the building on Friday, Hunter was placed on the active/non-football injury list.
Now the Pats decided to let go of the rookie which could mean his injury is more serious than people expected.
He was initially signed as an undrafted free agent back on May 10 out of Georgia State. During his collegiate career, he finished with 234 total tackles and six sacks.
Now with Hunter gone, there are 11 total linebackers left on the roster. Training camp is always a battle where players can make their presence known heading into the season.
Unfortunately, the 24-year-old won't have the chance to impress the coaching staff and stick onto the roster.
It's still early in camp so things can always change but as of right now, the Pats are already making tweaks to the roster.
