Patriots' First Week 3 Injury Report is Bad News for Thursday Night Matchup
By Cem Yolbulan
The New England Patriots could have easily entered this short week before their Thursday night matchup against the Jets 2-0. Instead, they are going in 1-1 after blowing a lead against the Seahawks. Even worse, however, they are in terrible shape as one of the most injury-depleted teams in the league.
Since it's a day after the game, the Patriots didn't practice on Monday. Yet, teams still have to release an injury report based on projections of listings had the team practiced. New England's injured list is deeply concerning before the battle against Aaron Rodgers & Co.
Patriots News: New England's Latest Injury Report is Concerning
The DNP part of the report includes three starting offensive linemen, center David Andrews, left tackle Vederian Lowe, and left guard Sidy Sow. Already dealing with injuries to Cole Strange and Jake Andrews and the departure of Chukwuma Okorafor, the Patriots will likely be extremely short-handed in their offensive line as they face the Jets.
The list of limited participants only adds to that concern. On the defensive side of the ball, Anfernee Jennings, Marcus Jones, Jabrill Peppers, and Deatrich Wise Jr. would have been limited participants, putting their status for Thursday in jeopardy. Defensive captain Ja'Whaun Bentley was already ruled out for the season with a pectoral injury earlier on Monday. Oshane Ximines is another linebacker not expected to suit up for Week 3.
That group represents the most experienced defenders on the roster. The young and inexperienced Patriots need as many competent veterans out there as possible. Without their key defenders that they can rely on, they may face an uphill battle against the Jets.
The upcoming days will give us a better idea of the availability of the Patriots' starters but Jerod Mayo may have to get creative to have a chance against AFC East rivals.
