It was a rocky three-year relationship between quarterback Mac Jones and the New England Patriots. Jones was selected with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to become the franchise quarterback after Tom Brady.

Those are huge shoes to fill but Jones never really stood a chance. The 25-year-old fell out of favor with the coaching staff and was benched on numerous occasions. Throughout his three-year career, Jones threw for 8,918 yards with 46 passing touchdowns and 36 interceptions.

The Patriots shipped Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a 2024 sixth-round pick and the deal became official on Mar. 13.

With the departure made official, the Pats gave Jones a farewell post and it was very uninspiring. It simply said, "Thank you, Mac" with a photo of him in action.

Patriots News: Mac Jones Received a Dry Goodbye Post

That was certainly a dull farewell message but it's also kind of a full-circle moment. Jones' tenure with the team wasn't anything special and neither was his play.

The Alabama product never truly captivated the fanbase or had any eye-opening moments. He was an average to below-average signal caller with New England and his time ran it's course.

Both sides now have the opportunity to go their separate ways and move forward. Jones will be the backup quarterback for Trevor Lawrence down in Jacksonville and the Pats will have a new quarterback under center in 2024.

Jerod Mayo is now leading the charge and the Pats will probably select either Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels with the third overall pick.
