Rolling into the year, the New England Patriots knew it wasn't going to be smooth sailing. They are a rebuilding team with a ton of new, moving pieces.

Quarterback is one of them. This offseason, the Patriots signed Jacoby Brissett to be the bridge quarterback. They also drafted Drake Maye with the third overall pick to be the guy of the future.

Brissett has been the starter since Week 1 but the offense is a shaky product right now. Heading into Week 4, New England is 32nd in the NFL in total offense (246.3) and passing offense (102) but 31st in scoring offense (13).

Head coach Jerod Mayo said the team isn't considering adding a veteran quarterback "at this current time" but things can change quickly in the NFL.

And according to Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, there could be one available.

Knox wrote an article highlighting some players who could on the trade block going into Week 4.

He named Pittsburgh's Russell Wilson as someone to watch and named the Patriots as a potential destination.

"The New England Patriots could also consider Wilson—if Jacoby Brissett continues to underwhelm and the Pats believe rookie Drake Maye still isn't ready."

Wilson signed with the Steelers on a one-year, $1.2 million deal in March. Although it was expected that he would be the starter there, it has actually been Justin Fields leading the way.

The 35-year-old has been QB2 in 2024 but would be an upgrade over what Brissett is putting out on the field. Although Wilson may not be the same quarterback he was in his prime, he can still sling the rock around. In 2023 with the Broncos, he completed 66% of his throws for 3,070 yards, 26 passing touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

With Wilson hitting free agency after the season and being toward the tail end of his career, it wouldn't cost much to acquire him. Especially if Brissett and the offense don't improve.

The environment on offense isn't an ideal situation to throw Maye into this early in the year. So adding someone like Wilson could be good news in both the short and long term for New England.
