With the Patriots sitting at 1-4 and coming off back-to-back blowout losses, they're searching for solutions to a number of problems. One of those issues is the lackluster receiving corps, which lacks a true No.1 option and has contributed to the team's league-worst offense.

Since New England already missed its chance to sign impact talent like DeAndre Hopkins in the offseason, the only realistic fix at this point is through the trade market. The Patriots have some young talent, especially on the defensive end, that could potentially help swing a trade for a top receiver.

With the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline still several weeks away, ESPN's Bill Barnwell proposed a bunch of hypothetical trades on Thursday, including one involving New England.

Patriots-Raiders Trade Rumors

According to Barnwell, one trade that might make sense for the Patriots would be sending wide receiver Kendrick Bourne to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for Hunter Renfrow and a 2025 seventh-round pick.

This trade makes sense for a couple of reasons. For starters, Renfrow is a good slot receiver who excels at short and intermediate routes, which is where New England's passing offense prefers to operate.

After five year with the Raiders, Renfrow could also use a change of scenery. He topped 1,000 receiving yards and made the Pro Bowl in 2021 but has been slowly phased out of the offense since Josh McDaniels took over. In 5 games this year, he has only 6 catches on 9 targets for 59 yards and no touchdowns. His talents clearly aren't being utilized right now.

Renfrow served as a security blanket for Derek Carr in 2021 and could do the same for Mac Jones. The Patriots would have to give up their best receiver to get him, however, as Bourne leads the team in catches (18), targets (33), receiving yards (218) and receiving touchdowns (2).

This could be a good time to buy low on Renfrow and sell high on Bourne, who is already more than halfway to his receiving yardage total from last year (434 yards). Belichick and McDaniels worked together for many years, too, so they already have a relationship that could help grease the skids for such a deal.

Time will tell if New England ends up making this trade or something similar, but it better get some help fast before the season slips away.
