Patriots Have Reportedly Discussed Trades With Two Teams
The New England Patriots headed into the offseason with a clear plan to improve the roster. They have a boatload of cap space and have the ability to make quality additions, especially on the offensive side.
The Patriots had lackluster playmakers on offense and have made it a priority to improve that unit. They entered free agency and made Calvin Ridley their No. 1 priority. Unfortunately, Ridley and the Tennessee Titans agreed on a four-year, $92 million deal with $50 million fully guaranteed.
They will need to pivot but have started the process of that. According to the Athletic's Chad Graff, the Patriots have checked in with two AFC teams about a potential trade.
"In the last two weeks, the Patriots made preliminary calls to check in on trades with at least the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Chargers, according to a team source,” Graff wrote. “That doesn’t mean a deal is imminent, but it signals the Pats are willing to go down that road.”
Patriots News: New England has Contacted Both the Los Angeles Chargers and the Cincinnati Bengals
It makes sense why New England made calls to these two teams. Cincinnati's WR Tee Higgins has recently requested a trade due to his contract talks not progressing. Meanwhile, Los Angeles had large cap numbers in 2024 for WRs Mike Williams and Keenan Allen along with edge rushers Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa.
New England wanted to kick the tires on potentially adding some veteran difference-makers for the 2024 campaign. They have the money to pay these guys while also having the draft capital to lock down a deal if the right opportunity presents itself.
They need to ace this offseason to improve their odds for the 2024 season. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Patriots are +2000 underdogs to win the AFC East. If you want to take lock-in of these odds, head over to FanDuel Sportsbook and claim your sign-up bonus.
