Earlier this week, New England Patriots rookie wide receiver Javon Baker was in hot water because of an off-the-field incident.

The rookie wide receiver was punished by head coach Jerod Mayo for an NFSW rant posted on Instagram Live last weekend after Baker was issued a traffic ticket. Mayo told reporters that the incident “in no way” represents the Pats, per Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald.

The first-year head coach also said that he and Baker had a conversation. Since Mayo spoke about the incident on Monday, we haven’t heard from Baker until Thursday.

The rookie receiver spoke with Dakota Randall of the Pro Football Network about the situation and showed no remorse after being punished.

“I don’t know honestly. I guess more eyeballs are on me because I’m in the NFL,” Baker said. “But if I regret anything I said, I wouldn’t have ever said it. So, I don’t regret nothing.”

The young wide receiver did not mince any words about the viral video. Baker told reporters that everything has been handled behind closed doors and if anybody had more questions, Mayo would be the best person to ask.

The Patriots hope this is the only thing they’ll have to worry about with the former UCF star wide receiver. Heading into the 2024 NFL Draft, there were reportedly some off-field concerns about Baker from an NFL anonymous executive.

However, outside of this small situation, Baker has stayed out of trouble. That said, the Patriots hope the rookie wide receiver can make some plays in the regular season, starting with Week 1 after a disappointing preseason.
