Potential New Patriots Alternate Jersey Accidentally Leaked
By Ryan Bunton
For New England Patriots fans clamoring for some changes in Pats threads, they might have gotten an accidental sneak peek at a potential alternate jersey on Wednesday, via the NFL Shop Canada site.
The leaked jerseys are the away iteration of the jerseys that New England donned between 1993 and 1999. Quarterback Joe Milton III, the Patriots' sixth-round draft choice in the 2024 NFL Draft, is seen repping the jersey alongside the Rome Odunze, the Chicago Bears' ninth overall pick.
Although the leak doesn't reveal the remaining elements of the uniform, the jersey was historically worn with silver pants and a silver helmet. The silver helmet was very similar to the Patriots' current one, with a slight modification of the Flying Elvis logo. If the leak is to be believed, then the Flying Elvis logo could simply be swapped on and off of the team's silver helmet, and wouldn't require an entirely new helmet.
Currently, NFL teams are only allowed two helmets, a restriction that will be expanded to three helmets for 2025. New England already has a second helmet, a white version with Pat Patriot that was re-introduced as part of the home red alternate jersey last season.
The franchise is eligible to revamp their entire uniform set next season, a change that a large portion of the fanbase has supported. Earlier this offseason, corner Christian Gonzalez had put his support behind a mock-up jersey (the home accompaniment of the leaked jersey), commonly referred to as the "royal blue" era of Patriots uniforms.
If there is one detail to make note of that could place doubt in the potential leak, Milton is donning no. 28 in the graphic. Milton wears 19. Regardless, the jersey would likely receive positive reception from the fanbase.
