Several Ex-Patriots Speak Out on Jerod Mayo After Bengals Game
By Ryan Bunton
Patriots fans were certainly feeling good after Sunday's surprising win over the Cincinnati Bengals, but they weren't the only ones. Two former Pats players - LeGarrette Blount and Jalen Mills - took to Twitter to celebrate the 16-10 New England dub.
Blount played for the Patriots in 2013 before eventually returning for a second stint from 2014-16. He won two Super Bowls in New England and led the league in rushing touchdowns in 2016 with the Patriots. Blount earned the nickname "Blount Force Trauma" and his 148 yards rushing in the 2014 AFC Championship rout of the Indianapolis Colts earned him a Sports Illustrated cover.
Blount and Mayo were teammates in New England in 2013, 2014, and 2015.
The now-retired running back did eventually come back to haunt the Patriots, as he was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles when they defeated New England in Super Bowl LIII.
Jalen Mills, who suited up for the Patriots from 2021-23, also gave a shout-out following the Week 1 win. Mills featured on New England's defense while Mayo served as an assistant coach on that side of the ball.
Mills, who played in 43 games for the Patriots, departed New England in March before signing with the New York Giants. He was released by the Giants on Aug. 15 and remains a free agent.
Blount and Mills spoke for much of Pats Nation, and it's a powerful reflection on how former teammates and players under Mayo feel about the new Patriots head coach.
