Surging Rookie Already Earning Starting Spot in Patriots Offense
The New England Patriots have been constantly changing and switching things around this offseason.
After letting go of Bill Belichick, it's been all about rebuilding this roster as they head into the 2024 campaign.
The Pats have a lot of new moving parts on the squad and they added a few rookies in the 2024 NFL Draft to help change the trajectory of this team. They had eight players selected, with seven of those guys being on the offensive side.
Now that training camp is underway, one offensive rookie is looking to lock down a starting role in 2024.
Pats News: Ja'Lynn Polk Taking First-Team Reps
During the July 24 practice, Polk was seen taking first-team reps with the offense. As a fan, this is the news you want to see from your rookie playmaker.
This shouldn't come as a surprise, as Polk had been balling all throughout the spring. Polk also got some first-team snaps in practice then and made a splashy catch on the last day of mandatory minicamp.
The Athletic's Chad Graff believed in June that Polk had a chance to become the No. 1 WR if Kendrick Bourne needed more time to recover from a torn ACL.
It seems like that belief entered training camp and that's a positive sign for Polk. The Washington product is a precise route runner who can rise up to make contested catches. Last season with the Huskies, he finished with 69 receptions for 1,159 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns.
Although he still has work cut of him, Polk is trending in the right direction and could have a major role early in the season.
