Red Sox Make Big Triston Casas Announcement Amid Trade Rumors
The Boston Red Sox have their hands full this offseason. Last season, they went 81-81 and missed the playoffs for the third straight season.
The Red Sox know they need to improve the roster if they want to be serious threats going forward. Last season, Boston had to watch as the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles made the playoffs.
Boston fans are clamoring to see a winning organization again and the offseason rumors are flying around. The Red Sox missed out on Teoscar Hernandez and are reportedly eyeing two-time All-Star sluggers.
While the reports are swirling, Craig Breslow gave an update on Triston Casas.
Red Sox News: Boston Reportedly Not Shopping Triston Casas
Breslow revealed that the Red Sox are "not shopping" Casas after his name was brought up in different trade packages this winter.
MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported that the Red Sox offered Casas and Masataka Yoshida in a potential deal to acquire Seattle right-handed pitcher Luis Castillo. While Casas is expected to be the long-term option at first base for Boston, his name was still brought up in trade talks.
The 24-year-old missed a lot of time last season with a rib injury but still suited up in 63 games for the Red Sox. His 2023 slash line was .241/.337/.462 with 13 home runs and 32 RBI.
This team knows they need more production in their batting lineup while they seek to add another right-handed batter. Moving off of Casas would create another hole that this team needs to fill in.
Breslow hinted after the season that Boston would be aggressive in the offseason to improve the team. The time of sitting back and banking on homegrown talent has passed. The Red Sox need to make some splashes before the 2025 season rolls around or they risk missing out on the playoffs again.
